The Aral Sea discovery is now available for all adventurers and explorers. Our journey takes you along ancient Silk Road routes and desert plains to witness the haunting beauty and historic significance of the Aral Sea region.
Drive across the Ustyurt Plateau in jeeps, visit a town that once was a thriving seaport, and sleep under the stars in a yurt near the receding shoreline of the sea.
Day 1: Nukus – Muynaq – Aral Sea
- 08:30 – Depart from Nukus and start the desert journey (~7 hours / ~400 km)
- Stops along the way:
- Mizdakhan Complex – ancient necropolis and mausoleums near former Khorezm capital.
- Muynaq – once a bustling seaport, now home to the haunting Ship Cemetery and Muynaq Museum.
- Ustyurt Plateau – vast rocky landscape once covered by sea, revealing salt flats and ancient seabed.
- Drive directly to the Aral Sea’s current shoreline.
- Overnight in a traditional yet comfortable yurt camp right at the edge of the sea.
- Enjoy open-air BBQ dinner and stargazing.
Day 2: Aral Sea – Nukus
- 08:30 – Breakfast in the yurt camp.
- Begin drive back to Nukus (~400 km).
- Stop by:
- Davlet Gerey (Kurgancha-Kala) – ancient way-station with caravanserai ruins.
- Ustyurt Plateau – aerial views reveal massive figures resembling birds and animals.
- Lake Sudochie – especially beautiful in spring with flocks of pink flamingos.
- 16:00 – Lunch stop in Kungrad.
- 20:00 – Arrival in Nukus, transfer to hotel. End of tour.
